Realism
Remington's art reveals a dramatic historical documentation of Western America. His landscapes inspire students to explore techniques to understand proportions and create backgrounds and foregrounds. Studio art includes use of pastels, cut paper, as well as pen and ink drawing.

Abstract Shapes
Students learn to recognize and understand abstract forms while emphasizing the design principles of rhythm and balance. The brilliant paper cutouts by Matisse inspire students to create abstract compositions in radiant colors and flowing abstract shapes.

Color Values
O'Keeffe's fresh view inspires student projects that combine scale and color value while exploring the design principle of emphasis. Students are introduced to watercolor pencils and a wash-and-resist technique.

Pastel Portraits
Cassatt's beautiful pastel portraits inspire students to explore the design principle of contrast using pastel techniques. Students are also introduced to correct proportions of the head as they create their own pastel portrait.

Technique
Assembly slide programs reveal the history of black ink painting in China and Japan. Students learn basic brush strokes emphasizing the design principles of unity and harmony as they create their own bamboo compositions.

Poetic Art
Chagall's poetic work offers a review of design principles and a new perspective on abstraction and realism. Students play with proportion, perspective, and variety as they create their own enchanted villages.
